Paul Zimmerman won the Pokfulam By-election

 

The 2010 Southern District (Pokfulam Constituencies) By-election that Civic Party participated ended yesterday (Sept 5). Civic Party’s candidate Paul Zimmerman won the by-election by 1,183 votes versus opponent’s 792 votes.

The pan-democrats from different parties and sectors joined an election event yesterday to express support for Paul Zimmerman, and to urge residents in Pokfulam to vote for Paul, the Civic Party candidate in the Southern District Council (Pokfulam Constituency) By-election on Sunday (5th Sept).

Call on a public memorial by HKSAR government

The Civic Party is extremely astonished by the recent hostage incident in the Philippine. The Party laments the victims’ death and conveys their profound sympathy and solicitude to the bereaved families. The Party is strongly disappointed the handling of the hostage crisis by Philippine Government and police.

The Civic Party hopes the HKSAR government to hold a public memorial for citizens to mourn for the tragedy.

Third Wave of the New Democracy Movement: Local Legislation on Political Reform

 

The Legislative Council has passed the Resolution on political reform on June 23 for the addition of 100 seats to each of the Sectors in the Election Committee ( the EC ) which will elect the Chief Executive in 2012 and for the addition of 5 seats to the Geographical Constituencies and 5 District-Council based seats to the Functional Constituencies in the Legislative Council. The HKSAR Government has indicated that it will initiate the local legislative process before the end of this year to provide for these additional seats and how they will be returned.

The stance of the Civic Party on the amendment of the 2012 Constitutional Reform Package

 

Today, the HKSAR government announced an amendment of the 2012 Constitutional Reform Package (Package). The following is the stance of the Civic Party (‘CP’):

1. To attain true universal suffrage there are two conditions: i) No pre-selection in the CE Election, and ii)     no Functional Constituencies in the LegCo Election. The critical problem of the Political Reform is the abolition of FC, but the new package does not touch on this.

Over the past ten days Civic Party Working Group has been in discussion with the Chief Executive Office regarding the arrangements of the debate between the CE and Hon Ms Audrey Eu. Subsequent to the four meetings, both parties are close to the signing of a memorandum of understanding, subject to some fine details. In response to the interest of the public and the media, we hereby announce some basic details which have been agreed in principle by both parties:
